We are using the best web-based control panel (cPanel) for web hosting. cPanel is a one-stop-shop for creating email accounts, web statistics, managing your hosting environment, and more.

Domain names are the building blocks of the world wide web. They act like 'markers' for websites. They are just names, identities (you can say). They need to be pointed to a server (that actually hosts your data) which is where RedTag.Host comes in.

You get a domain name (from a non-technical standpoint) for marketing and usability reasons. You could if you like forgo the domain name and just use the IP address of your server, but no one would remember it and many would be skeptical to visit it.

New Shared Hosting accounts are automatically created once payment is confirmed. An activation notice will be sent to the email address associated with your account containing your account login and access information. Once you receive this information you can immediately begin uploading your files, previewing your site, configuring email accounts, etc. (NOTE: If you registered a new domain or have updated an existing domain to point to our server, it generally takes 24-48 hours for domain name propagation to be complete and your site to be officially "LIVE" for the world to see.)

New VPS Hosting accounts can take up to 8 hours, from the time payment is confirmed, to be configured depending on the time of day the order is placed. Our staff process these orders between 9AM and 9PM EST. Once configured, your connection details will be sent to the email address associated with your account.

RedTag.Host automatically generates full backups of your website on a weekly basis and stores that data in a secure off server location. If you wish to manually generate your own backup you can do this from within the cPanel control panel in the Files section using the Backup Wizard. The file that is generated can then be downloaded to your own computer and be stored as you wish. Please note that we do not recommend leaving these backup files in your hosting account as this can quickly grow your storage usage and potentially cause your account to max out and prevent anything from being stored (including new email messages).
